Harbor Tackle Fishing Report August 20, 2007
Sorry for the few fishing reports lately, the fishing has not been so good.
In the surf you may find a few croakers, kingfish, spot, flounder, blues, and large sharks. Surf fishing is slow. Maybe a few more legal flounder being caught in the bay, they are in the deeper holes in the cooler water. Nice sized croakers being taken but you must go find the schools of fish. They are scattered in the bay. People are catching some spot and hoarding them for striper season. The 2nd & 4th Street Bulkhead has produced a couple of good sized flounder, triggerfish, croakers, and small tog. The Inlet is showing croakers, short stripers, lots of shad and some large blues have shown up. The Rt. 50 Bridge is producing short stripers, flounder, and croakers. Last night some large blues showed up there. Some small sea bass are showing up in the bay. Travis McKenna from Ocean City caught a 6.56 lb flounder with bluefish at Russell’s Reef. Albert Crisamore, IV of East Berlin, Pa. hooked up with a 4.485 lb flounder using minnows in the Thorofare. Dave Pasun of Laurel, Md. caught a 22 inch 9.425 lb spadefish at the Fenwick Shoals using squid. Spenser Sharp 8 years old of Berlin hooked a 2.585 bluefish at the Inlet with spot as bait. Bob Spetzler of Berlin caught a 6.9 lb 25 inch flounder at the 3rd Street Bulkhead using live spot. Amanda Schmidt age 6 of Ocean City caught a 4.93 lb flounder at the 2nd Street Bulkhead using live spot.
Terry and I finally went to the beach this week. In fact we went 2 times. Its gonna snow. Most people have never seen a fishing rod in Terry’s hands before. They probably think he does not know how to fish. Terry fished all day for 1 small croaker. I had a wonderful time napping in my chair. It was a beautiful warm day with a nice breeze. On Sunday we were up early to go to the beach again. Terry thought is was going to rain so we just stayed home. About noon Terry decides he must go to the beach to try casting his new 13 ft Breakaway rod with a Daiwa SL30SH reel. He is getting his equipment ready for a fishing tournament in Hatteras. Off we go, Terry is casting his new rig and I am asleep in the truck. The wind was blowing and it was uncomfortable sitting on the beach. We had great time and who knows when we will ever get to the beach again. And by the way, I can fish too, but I prefer the hard work of napping or reading a book to surf fishing on the beach.
Harbor Tackle has fresh bunker, fresh spot, live eels, live minnows, live peelers, and 2 sizes of live black saltys.
