Not "new" to some, but maybe it is to people that don't freshwater fish often. Ever had a bluegill or sunfish suck the hook into the stomach or have a kid freak watching you trying to pull a barb back out of an eye socket? Kids don't usually take to well to that so what I'll do is pinch the barbs shut and have a small coffeee straw with me. If the hook protudes out past the eye, nose, wherever, it slides easily back out. If he gut hooks himself, I'll take the coffeee straw, slide it down his throat and gently dislodge the hook. Once the point is free, I put the straw over the hook point, this way it comes back up the throat easily with out re-hooking the fish again. Kinda easier on the kids not having to see these "little fishies getting hurt".

.... We Speak your name.....
I can just visualize Mike turning his back on the kids As he is ripping out the hook thru the eye socket! Meanwhile he's cursing and swearing under his breath.
