okay, i got all my wires rerun and hooked up. got 12 volt to the elec box and the vhf and stereo will not power up. the lighter plug works with my spotlight and is on the same pawer block. volt meter is reading just 12 volts as boat has set for 2 months almost. checked all fuses and all. they both worked when i took them out to get the top welded. any ideas?

Did you check the ground side for resistance to ground Barry?

IF you have 12V to the fuse block in the elec. box.....it has to be between the fuse block and the radio. Do you have a 2nd fuse in-line between the radio and fuse block??
Try resetting or even replacing the fuses. Polarity reversed? hope not. Corrosion on terminals or crimps? Check for +12V on both sides of the fuse to ground. Check/reset any breakers? Like gradlady posted, ground to ground?? even run a temp extension wire to your battery or ground dist. block located near your battery selector switch.
Call me if you need to 717-579-6800

Dave and Ron, thanks for all the tips and advice but it turned out to be a little simplieer than i thought. took vhf to work today and had instrument tech look at it. he found a break in the wire lead coming out of the radio about 1/2" from where it plugs into the other half at the boat. he fixed it and i am sure it will power up now when i get home. my guess is there is something similar going on with the stero also since all else works and my meter shows 12v at all the terminals.

Great !!! before you re-install the VHF , coat the connections with di-electric grease to resist corrosion.

well this weekendi skipped all the fishing and got the boat all squared away. all electronics in and working as b4 crack repair. even added a loran i got from bucktailbob. did find on sat afternoon that the bow rail looked a little loose si i investigated adn it was only thru bolted on both ends with just screws everywhere else. well it is now also thru bolted everywhere and much firmer whenleaning on it. looks like deer for me this coming friday(gotta stock the freezer) and maybe sat too but look out del bay come sunday.

Dave, it was a broken wire on the 6" pigtail that comes out of the vhf. it was on the ground wire and was about 1" towards the radio from the quick connect plug. on the stereo i must have stretched the wire also and the fuse was not touching firmly and would work occasionally. glad to say all is working great now.
