ML The Shamrock web site Sucks IMO. There is nothing in the Specs on How Large the thingypit is. RE: 246 Adventure - I guess I'd have to see one to say it's small. In some of these YWorld listings the thingypit appears it will fit 3 people (I would guess) in the back. Look at this listing yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatFullDetails.jsp?boat_id=1461435&ybw=&units=Feet¤cy=USD&access=Public&listing_id=24864&url=Looks like they want out! It's an '06 and I'm sure it is now costing them money on their Floor Plan. Are you looking at any of these Grand Slams? Look at the 24-25 Blackfins Click on image to enlarge 25' Blackfin Redone in 2004 everything! This is a brand new 260 Mariner! She is a new model designed in response to the overwhelming need for a trailerable, diesel cabin boat, that boasts the advantages of a true keel. She has the outsanding fuel economy and reliability of a 270 Cummins Diesel w/ trolling valve. She also has Raw & Fresh Water Washdown, ShorePower w/ Charger, and an Electric Marine Head. Her solid keel provides prop protection, although she only draws 26 inches. Did you ever think you could never buy a new Diesel, Inboard Sport Fishing Boat for under 100k? Here she is!! Retail on this boat is around $115,000!! New boat order on it's way, she has to go!!

I looked at the Sham 246 when I was moving up from my 23' Whaler. The helm area was cramped and we decided we didn't want / need another cuddy boat.
We also sea-trialed a 268 Albe(poor ride 3'+) and 25 Carolina Classic. Of those 2 boats, the 25CC wins hands down. Diesel is the preferd power but they are expensive.
I honestly like the older Shamrock over the newer ones. Search for a older well maintained boat with recent re-power.
Good luck.

i'm also guessing that the best time to truly buy a boat would be at the first part of boating season or am i wrong on this? just wondering how much time i have to think about what/afford that i can do

Sharp Looking Boat Dave!
Ok - Ask yourself the following Questions.
1. Trailer? Drystack? Slip?
2. Type of fishing. Troll? Chunk? If both - what is the % of each do you do.
3. Where do you want to go? Furthest point? Hot Dog? Wilmington?
4. Overnight or Day trips?
5. Shallow water requirements?
6. How many people do I ENJOY fishing with? 2? 3? 4? Will this many people fit Comfortable in boat X?
7. Do I need/want a genny?
8. New? Used ? I think you already said New.
I am sure I left a few out. Answer some of them and you will see what you need/want.
Will she need more water? Will she make it out there and back? Fuel Burn. Deep V ? Modified Hull? Flat bottom? (Each bottom has its Pros and Cons) Will I need to slip it, stack it, trailer it? How much?
Blah Blah....
I grew up and fished in NJ. We troll our ASSSSES off in NJ. Therefore, you want a Deep V. Here in DE - I now throw chunks with Tom and Jim (Sometimes watch Jim BLOW Chunks) and troll. So, a Deep V will knock the $hit out of you and SPILL YOUR BEER!!!!!
We asked all of these questions when we purchased the Ocean Yacht.
Trust me... Each and Everyone of us will help you SPEND YOUR (Mr. & Mrs. ) MONEY for next year! I'm enjoying this!!!

i'm also guessing that the best time to truly buy a boat would be at the first part of boating season or am i wrong on this? just wondering how much time i have to think about what/afford that i can do This is a HOT time of year for boat sales. Alot of people come out of the woodwork and really start looking and collecting their info. So, in the Grand Scheme of things... You and MANY MANY other people are looking! I would get pre-approved so you are kicking the Right Tire - if that makes sense. When I purchased the Blackfin - I got pre-approved first and then looked. Yeah... Might have been ASSS backwards but, I knew what my limit was at the time AND if could look at someone and say I am a serious buyer AND I'm approved. Just like buying a house (Which BTW - You get a kitchen, bathroom and sleeping Qtrs and you have a 2nd home WRITE OFF on your TAXES) If you need a name and number of my boat finance guy - I'll hook you up with him. You'll be approved in Minutes. My advice - and I am sure many people will DISAGREE with me. NEVER EVER take out a 2nd on your HOME for a boat. If someone is financing a boat than secure the loan w/ the boat. Just my words of wisdom for the night.

You may want to seriously think about listing your boat - NOW. It's HARD to SELL a boat (Look at me) VERY VERY EASY to BUY a boat (Look at everyone on this Forum!! ) Check out www.thesaltydog.com
