Usually never a problem starting, but sometimes after the drifting I'd have to re-prime, and it would still stall, sputter, etc... Went through all of the usual, changing filters, plugs, primer ball but Sam at Hiltons said he's seen the V-6 Johnsons (don't know why it doesn't bother the 2 and 4 cyl's) like to have the fuel pulled through the filter, not pushed into it, so when he changed the impeller a few weeks ago he brought the primer ball to to the outlet side of the seperator and we did not have a single hiccup or sputter all day Saturday. Just an FYI for those with the V6 Johnson's that may experience this...

I was told the same with my Johnson when installing my water separator that the bulb should be after the filter to pull the fuel thru it. never had issues with mine thanks to my traveling mechanics opinions.
