have twin DF115 4-strokes on my boat. I replaced the shift and throttle cables on both engines, and adjusted the shift cables to make sure that the motors change gears properly. When I tried to start the motors, i turned the keys, the lights came on, the beeper beeped, the fuel pump started, but the starter did not engage (won't turn over). I checked the neutral safety switches, and they appear to be operating properly. I did the lanyard reset procedure, but it still won't turn over. My batteries are good. And the problem is occurring on both motors.
Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be?
Thanks.

Are there neutral switches in the controls ? Possibly 2 sets ?
One set in the control another set where the cables connect to the motor.
Might be time to purchase the original Factory shop manual.

I own the factory shop manual. There's nothing in it about the controls or the cables.

Disconnect the cables from the motor. Move the shift arm on the motor to feel for neutral then try to start it. Check for loose wires on the neutral switches.
Only other thing would be you bumped an electrical connection or something while installing the new cables. Sounds electrical versus mechanical.

Yeah the cables are good in neutral at the motor. I can see the Nuetral Safety Switch being depressed by the lever. I'll try and see if there's a switch at the controls. I agree that it sounds electrical. Thanks.

Since the problem started after you worked on it & it is in both engines, I would say it's something you did. Take a DMM & trace the circuit. You should find where you're losing it. Maybe bypass the neutral safety to see if it cranks.

The problem was the brown wire that goes from the NSS on the controls to the key switch. Works great now. See you all on the water this weekend!!
