What a pain in the ding ding!
I have one of those suicide knobs on my steering wheel. Well, it came apart, and the nut was rattling around inside the wheel. It makes my top ten list of the most annoying sounds in the world. Well, my dad had the idea of shooting insulation foam into the wheel to trap the nut and keep it quiet. That didn't work, as the foam didn't even come close to filling the wheel. What a mess!
I got the foam out, and got the nut to the hole. I put the parts on the bolt and tried to reattach it, but the bolt's not long enough to reach the nut. What?!?! How do they attach these things at the factory.
Magnets don't work on stainless steel.
Ok, I'll glue the nut right below the hole. Didn't work.
Last resort. Drill through the wheel, use another screwdriver to hold the nut up, and loctite the bolt to the nut. Sounds like a plan. Easy, right? Wrong!!
Anyway, it's on and the threads are loctited. It won't be coming off again.

Still not getting the numbers I'm looking for.
I'm doing 25 knots @ 5000 rpm and 1.6 mpg with full tanks, 2 people, and gear.
I should be getting 30.4 kts, 2.4 mpg with 1/3 tank, no water, 2 ppl and gear.
I may raise the motors up a notch over the winter.
