....about Autopilots.
How do they work?
What do I need? (If I'm gonna go cheap and buy components on Ebay instead of a full system from a dealer)
How tough is the install?
Recommended brands (Let's not get into a brand vs brand pissing match)
I'm just toying with the idea right now. I like the thought of the fuel savings gained by having one installed.

autopilots can be a valuable tool and/or a pain in the ass,one that works will save you time and fuel, also if you fish solo or a small crew can really help out when deploying the spread or if you have multiple knock downs, its like having an extra crew member on board who doesn't drink your beer...anyway some work different than others and they are constantly being upgraded just like all marine electronics, some have different components that eventually are a weak link...rudder feed back sensors etc,I have been on several boats this year that use different brand units they all seem to work ok,so I will not get into a brand pissing match,if you decide to buy one you may think about getting it professionally installed as there are some wiring and steering connections to be made...as for the raymarine s1000 you may want to research, the hull truth forum, I believe there was a thread about that units performance, some good some bad...good luck!! keep us posted on your progress
