Just pulled the boat and found out the radio doesnt work. checked all the fuses, all good, there is power getting to the bank that the radio runs from cuz its the same bank as my vhf which is working fine, but still nothing to the radio, connections are good all around and Im befuddled. Can a radio just stop working from last year? I left it in the boat over the winter but it was covered and under cover but it was outside. Too cold? seems like Im missing something easy...

Don't trust a visual inspection of the wires. Use a DMM & check at the last place you can get access before the radio. If you have power there & still can't find a problem, push two straight pins or needles through the wire an inch or so from the radio & test for voltage there. Don't forget to reseal the holes you made after it's fixed. Or if you are comfortable getting under the hood, check the test points inside the radio instead. Cold probably didn't hurt it, but if you moved it from a cold area to bright sunlight or indoors it may have started sweating & shorted out.

check all fuses with a digital volt ohms meter, fuses may appear good but I would test them to make sure you have continuity through the fuse, also check the inline fuse connections for corrosion then check your grounds, make sure they are clean

Digital Multi Meter. I have a rather expensive Fluke, but you can do just fine with a Wally World Special. You can get accurate voltage readings & check for voltage drop through the various connections & wires. Also you can measure resistance throughout a circuit which will tell you if there is any corrosion, loose connections, weak grounds, cold joints, etc. A few minutes of systematic troubleshooting beats a whole weekend of throwing money at it. Someone else on here just went through this with his bilge pump. Bought parts, destroyed a bunch of wiring, spent a lot of time, only to find a bad connection that he missed with visual inspection.

Jerry is being extremely polite. The bonehead he's referring to is me. The bad wire was NO WHERE near where I would expect it, but yes I spent hours and money chasing a problem that could have been fixed in 5 minutes. Now I have still more hours to correct a new problem. As they suggest, check ALL possible continuity and connections before cutting wires and/or spending money.

Took the unit out and went to a high end radio store and had them bench test it in front of me. Its shot... gonna pick something up at wally world for 50 bucks and re install using my existing wiring harness, then I need a good cleaning and Im ready to get wet. Shooting for a mid-week Chesapeake trolling/scouting/jigging trip mid next week
